The Best Power Lift Recliner Chair Is Both Comfortable And Functional
Power lift recliners are popular, especially among elders.
A big reason for that is the feature that helps you stand up. It will not only recline down to where you’re lying down but, if needed, bring you to an almost standing position.
My grandmother has one, and while it’s something we’ve been playing around with, I’ve always been impressed with how high up they can take you.
If you have knee issues or for any reason could use some help getting in and out of your comfortable chair, a power lift reclining chair will be a blessing.
Today I am reviewing and comparing the best power lift chairs on the market. I have two requirements for the chairs on the list.
They must be able to lift to help you stand up, and they must be able to recline back to a comfortable seating position.
If you’re elderly or looking to buy one for your elderly family member, this is the post you’re looking for.
Of course, these chairs are comfortable for all ages, and you don’t have to be elderly to use one.
If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, I recommend scrolling down to the Buyers Guide where I go through a couple of things to consider when choosing a chair.

Power Lift Recliner Chairs Reviews & Info
If you don’t need a “modern” recliner with USB-ports, heat, and massage functions, but want the premium most comfortable power lift recliner chair, look no further.
The Yandel Power Lift Recliner (click to view on Amazon), by Ashley Furniture, is one of the most comfortable high-quality chairs on the market.
It’s one of the more massive chairs on the list, but with chairs heavier often means better quality.
Note that this is the only chair in this review that has a battery backup. A battery backup is excellent in case you’re worried about power outages. This would let you recline up and get out of the chair even if you lost power.
The Yandel power lift chair comes in two different colors, black, and saddle.
Both with upholstery that looks like leather, but is a thick poly fiber. This thick poly fiber feels extremely soft to sit on and is comfortable for sitting in for hours.
The faux leather shares a lot of features with real leather and will last for years.
It can feel a bit slippery, so if you’re the kind of person that doesn’t like that, be aware. Most of the chairs today are pretty slippery, as most use Faux leather fabric.
When it comes to its lift power, it can hold up to 300 pounds of weight and is controlled with the wired remote.
This remote will control the recliner function by reclining down and putting out the footrest, and vice-versa.
For the chair to assist you to stand up, you push the “UP” until the footrest has retracted all the way.
If you keep holding the button, the chair will start rising. You then push the “DOWN” button to bring it back down.
A great feature most power lift recliners have is the side pocket. Some have one on each side, and the Ashley Furniture Yandel has a pocket on the right side that will hold the remote when you don’t need it, among other things, like magazines.
When the chair is fully reclined, it measures 69 inches. The seat height is 20 inches. Seat height is how far it is from the ground to the seat.
One thing I like about the Ashley Furniture chair is that the motor is very quiet. I have sat in a couple of power lift chairs with loud motors, which I didn’t like.
It’s a relatively big chair, so be aware of its measurements. If you’re a small person, it might feel too large.
One thing I like about that is the large armchairs. I don’t like it when armchairs aren’t big enough for my arms to move around a bit and force them to stay in one position.
Overall, the plush-ness of the Yandel power lift is one I like. It’s the kind of chair I can fall asleep in, and with its reclining features, it’s easy to do so!
What I Like
- Faux Leather
- Premium, plush comfort
- Wired remote control
- Comes in two different colors
The Giantex power lift recliner chair is one that feels and looks both modern and retro to me. Maybe it’s because it feels like this style of chair and color is coming back again.
A significant difference between the soft velvet upholstery compared to faux leather is how it’s much less slippery. I bet you’ve sat in a chair once and felt like you’re slipping out of it.
With a power lift recliner chair, it can be kind of dangerous to feel that way if your knees aren’t powerful enough to grab yourself in case you slip out of it when getting out of the chair.
Another difference is how breathable the material is, if you’re the kind of person that usually gets warm and sweaty after sitting in a recliner chair for a couple of hours, the velvet fabric might be gentler on your skin and keep you cooler.
There is no need to worry about the fabric not lasting though, as it’s very durable, stain- and water-resistant.
The Giantex recliner chair has USB-ports, a back heater, massage features, and a wired remote that will let you control all the features from the seat.
If you want to bring the chair up, use the remote and bring it up to where it supports you enough to stand up.
This remote can be stored in the side pocket on the right side of the chair, where you can also store smaller items like reading glasses, or what my grandmother stores in her side pocket: salt-packages.
There’s also a large cup holder at the ends of each armrest. A really smart feature that I really like with the recliner.
The seat height is 20.5 inches, and the chair can hold up to 330 pounds. It can handle those weights easily with its heavy-duty steel lift mechanism.
If you’re looking for a power lift recliner chair that has everything, this is a great option.
What I Like
- Soft, durable, water/stain-resistant fabric
- Side pocket storage for remote + smaller items
- Space-friendly design
- Wired remote control
The next two recliner chairs are going to be slightly different than the others, and the biggest difference you’ll see is the features that companies can pack into chairs.
Irene House electric power lift recliner chair is the first of them, that is comfortable, easily controlled with remote control, but also offers a couple of features you don’t see on most products.
I don’t want to call it a “smart” chair, but a multifunctional one.
The first feature is heating. A heated part around the lower back area will help keep you warm and cozy, and there are five modes available to choose from.
Not only will the chair keep you warm, but it will also massage you. With eight vibrating nodes, it will massage your lower and upper back.
Why not turn on the heat and get a massage at the same time?
Irene House hasn’t skipped out on comfort, as the recliner chair is very comfortable and soft with its high-density sponge construction.
Faux leather upholstery, wide armrests, and the overstuffed back will let you enjoy your favorite tv-show while seated comfortably for hours.
The material used is easy to clean, breathable, and wear-resistant to last for years. It both looks and feels fantastic.
When it’s time to get up or lie down to sleep, you will use the wired remote, which stores in the side pocket of the chair. There are two side pockets, which you won’t see on many chairs.
The chair comes in both multiple color options and has a seat height of 19 inches.
Last but not least, this recliner can go from a 90 degree backrest position all the way to a flat 180 degree position. Not many recliners can do this and it’s a great way to make this comfortable chair even more useful.
The Irene House power lift recliner chair offers excellent value with a lot of features for its price.
I recommend it due to its comfortable seat, modern features, and multifunctional uses.
The wired remote lets you control everything without getting out of the chair, and with this many features, it would be a luxurious addition to any home.
What I Like
- Multifunctional with heat & massage
- Wired remote control
- Storage (side-pockets)
- Soft, durable material
- Full flat backrest position option
My favorite power lift recliner chair in this review is the MCombo electric power lift chair. I love the design, features, utility, and feel of this chair.
First off, it has the massage and heat we saw on the PieDle chair above. 8 vibrating nodes are packed into the chair and controlled with the remote to treat you with some well-deserved massage when needed.
I can see myself using this feature every day if I had this chair because I love massages.
A heating part around the waist area of the chair will keep you warm and cozy as needed.
There are nine modes and five intensities available. Both the heat and massage features can be on timers of 10, 20, and 30 minutes so you can set it and forget it, and it will turn off when the timer runs out.
Of course, you can use the heat and massage separately.
The next thing I love about this chair is the cup holders!
Okay, I know they’re just two cup holders, but that is so convenient, and it’s so awesome that MCombo thought about adding one on each side.

I often have a drink of water or milk when I go to sit down on the couch, and the problem is always where I can put it and have a sip without having to get out of my seat.
Maybe my couch is too big, but I wish it had cup holders.
With the cup holders on this recliner chair, I wouldn’t have to move my arms far to reach my drink. Do I sound lazy? I just like to stay cozy, y’all!
Another thing we saw on the PieDle chair that I also like a lot is the USB ports.
Being able to charge my devices while I am watching TV would be awesome.
With this chair, you can charge your phone or tablet and put it in the side pocket, or while you’re using it.
My grandmother’s favorite feature about this chair would be the fact that there are five colors to choose from.
Black, creme white, dark brown, light brown, and red. I know she would spend hours deciding what color to go with.
It’s a great “feature” since everybody’s living room looks different from another. Choose the color that fits you and your home!
The motor on the MCombo reclining chair is very quiet, and TUV certified, which means it has been officially tested for safety-relevant aspects.
MCombo uses high-quality faux leather on this chair, which makes it durable, easy to clean, breathable, and comfortable.
The best thing with faux leather is that you don’t have to use any special oil or wax to keep it nice and clean like with real leather.
Overall, I see the MCombo power lift chair as a winner, and it is for that reason my top recommendation.
Not only for its extra features like massage and heat but safety reasons as well. And oh, don’t forget about the cup holders!
What I Like
- Multifunctional with heat, massage, USB ports
- Cup holders
- Five colors to choose from
- Wired remote control
- Storage (side-pocket)
- Soft, durable material
The last chair doesn’t have a ton of extra features, other than being an electric power lift chair that does a great job of being just that.
It has a stylish and unique design with brass nailhead trimming on the front of it.
Its brown or beige (you choose) upholstery is also a thick, velvety faux leather, double-stitched throughout and with a worn look.
I like the look of it and could see this in my grandma’s living room. Harper & Bright describes the style as tasteful and I would like to agree.
A side-pocket holds the wired remote control when you’ve made yourself comfortable.
It reclines up to 160 degrees, and its quiet motor lets you do it without disturbing the rest of the room.
It’s one of the bigger power lift chairs available and will fit larger people without a problem. It can hold up to 330 pounds of weight.
The armrests are rolled, and the seat is very comfortable to sit in for several hours.
As mentioned above, it has a wired remote control that is very simple. It lets you recline up and down.
The fact that this chair doesn’t have a ton of extra features is fine because it’s still a very nice chair that you can rely on. For some, less is more.
The Harper & Bright power lift recliner chair is a great heavy-duty option that will fit bigger people that need help getting up and down the chair.
It doesn’t have any modern features like USB ports, heat, or massage, but it’s a reliable chair from a great company that cares about comfort and its reputation.
What I Like
- Faux Leather
- Premium, plush comfort
- Wired remote control
- Tasteful, stylish design
- Two colors to choose from
Power Lift Recliner Buyers Guide
Choosing a chair with battery backup is useful if you live in a place where power outages occur often enough to be a problem.
The battery backup feature lets you put batteries in the power box so you can get recline up and down even if you lose power to your home.
Only one of the chairs in this review has this feature, the first one by Ashley Furniture (click to view on Amazon).
If you’ve chosen a chair without battery backup and are worried about getting stuck in your chair without power, you can also get a UPS (click to view on Amazon) that will power your chair even during a power outage.
An important factor when choosing a power lift chair for you or somebody you know is the size. Making sure it’s small or big enough for the person to fit in the chair comfortably is crucial.
All manufacturers advertise how big the chair is, and some advertise what heights they are for.
The height of a person is relevant because you don’t want your feet to hang too far down on the leg rest, or your head to stick up above the headrest.
Unless you’re under five feet, or above six feet, this is usually not something you have to worry about.
What is the most relevant for most buyers when it comes to size is how big the seat is.
The measurements of the seat can often be found on the product page, and I recommend you find a chair you like and compare it to it, to make sure you don’t purchase a chair that is too big or too small.
Some heavy-duty chairs are made for big people, while some smaller chairs are perfect for smaller people.
I think we can all agree that the main selling point of a power lift chair is the fact that it will help you get in and out of the chair with the help of the reclining motor.
If a chair can’t help a person with knee problems stand up to get out of the chair, it’s not doing a good job of being a power lift chair.
They’re often advertised to elderly folks for a reason.
There are, however, more functions in the newer models of power lift chairs.
Features like heating, massage, cup holders, USB-ports, and storage. They’re multifunctional and my favorite chair on the list above has all of these features.
But do you need them? Do you have a device that needs to be charged often so that USB ports can be handy?
Do you ever have a drink while watching TV and could use a cup holder?
Do you read magazines and want to access them via a storage pocket on your chair easily?
Ask yourself these questions when choosing what functions you want and need in a chair. If you spend several hours every day in this chair, maybe heating and massage will be a blessing.
I know I could use both the heat, the massage, the cupholders, and the USB ports every day, but what about you?
None of the power lift chairs I reviewed and shared today are made with real leather.
They’re all faux leather or another soft fabric.
If you want a chair made with genuine leather, you’re going to pay way more and might have to deal with oil and wax for the chair to last a long time.
Faux leather is a great material that is soft to the touch and shares a lot of great features with real leather. It’s durable, stain- and water-resistant, easy to clean, and breathable.
If you want to have a chair in your living room that can be used for both sitting up and lying down, you’re going to have to plan where you place it.
Power lift recliner chairs take up space, and before you decide which one to go for, you should make sure it won’t be hitting the wall when fully reclined.
The measurements for how long the chair is when fully reclined can be found on the product page.
Fully reclined or not
Not all chairs recline all the way so you can lie down. You can usually see whether it will or not in the product images or the product specifications.
If you can’t, I suggest contacting the manufacturer to find out.
What you should read or ask about is whether it’s a two, three, or infinite position reclining chair. You can read more about that in the next point below.
Maybe you don’t care about it fully reclining or not, since you might never want to sleep in the chair.
I never spend a whole night in my chair, so I don’t mind having a chair that “only” reclines to a comfortable position where I am lying down on my back, but not down like when I am in my bed.
Two/three/infinite position reclining chairs
When shopping for power lift reclining chairs, you’re going to see the words: two positions, three positions, and infinite positions.
This has to do with the above point about being able to fully recline or not.
A two position chair is more limited when it comes to how far it can recline and what part of the chair that reclines. Usually, it will be the backrest with an elevating footrest.
These are perfect for reading or watching tv, but spending a whole night sleeping in one might be tough.
A three position chair extends the backrest further when reclining and at different angles.
These don’t recline fully either and are either better or the same as a two-position chair for reading or watching tv.
An infinite position reclining chair has a full range of reclining positions.
This means that you can reach a position where you are lying down like you’re going to sleep.
These can usually put you in the Trendelenburg position, which means that your head will be below your feet.
A reason to get an infinite position reclining chair is for its circulation benefits.
Power Lift Recliner Frequently Asked Questions
Can lift chairs rock/swivel?
The chairs I have reviewed and compared today can’t rock. This is mostly for safety reasons.
Since it’s a chair sitting on a frame with a motor to help people recline up and down, adding a rocking feature would make it less stable, reliable, and safe to use, especially for the elderly.
For the same reason as above, power lift chairs can’t swivel. If you want a swivel reclining chair, you need to look at the ones that don’t offer the power lift feature like this (click to view on Amazon).
What are lift chairs used for?
Power lift chairs are great for people of all ages that have knee, back, or any other problem that makes it hard for them to sit or stand up from chairs on their own.
With a power lift chair, a motor is built-in to lift the chair up off the ground to assist users.
Are lift chairs reliable and good for elders?
If you buy a power lift chair from a reputable company, it will be reliable and great for elders with trouble sitting down and standing up on their own.
Note that there is a motor in a power lift chair, and these motors can malfunction, or you can lose power to your home, which would stop the chair from working.
For this reason, it’s crucial to have a second way of getting assistance if needed.
The best thing is always to have a phone nearby to contact friends, relatives, or emergencies in case you need to.
You can read more about ways to stay safe in the buyer’s guide above.
Do Medicare or Medicaid cover lift chairs?
I am not an expert on medicare or Medicaid, and I recommend contacting medicare to get the latest information about this.
Which power lift chair is the best?
I recommend scrolling up and reading my reviews of the best reclining lift chairs above.
Which one is the best for you depends on who you are and what you’re looking for in a chair.
